X Original Content Rewards program for creators and original content

X Introduces Original Content Rewards to Change How Creators Earn

X is changing its creator payment system by replacing its existing Revenue Sharing program with a new initiative called Original Content Rewards

The new approach is designed to give more importance to creators who produce their own ideas, reporting, videos, images, and other original work.

For creators who depend on X for income, the change could make content quality and originality more important than simply collecting large numbers of views.

X Will Phase Out Its Current Revenue Sharing Program

X has stopped accepting new participants into its existing Revenue Sharing program.

Creators who are already enrolled can continue receiving payments through September 7.

Beginning September 8, eligible creators will have the opportunity to apply for Original Content Rewards.

The new program will still require participants to have an X Premium subscription.

There are also audience requirements. Creators need at least 500 verified followers and must generate 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users over a 90-day period.

What X Considers Original Content

The new program places a stronger emphasis on content created by the person posting it.

Independent reporting, personal analysis, original photography, videos, graphics, and memes can all fall within the type of content X wants to reward.

Commentary may also qualify when the creator adds useful information, opinions, or another meaningful perspective.

On the other hand, simply copying another account’s post is not enough.

Re-uploading downloaded videos or images without adding meaningful changes may also fail to meet the new requirements.

This could encourage creators to spend more time developing their own ideas instead of depending on popular posts from other accounts.

Why X Is Moving to a New System

X has previously adjusted its creator payment rules to reduce the benefits available to accounts focused heavily on aggregation and click-driven posts.

Those changes created disagreements among some creators, particularly accounts that had built their income around the existing system.

With Original Content Rewards, X is taking a broader approach.

Instead of continually adding restrictions to the old program, the company wants to build a system where original contributions are part of the reward structure from the beginning.

How Creators May Need to Adapt

The change could encourage creators to develop a recognizable style and publish more material that they personally create.

Creators may benefit from sharing their own experiences, research, opinions, visual content, videos, and analysis.

Accounts that mainly repost content from elsewhere may need to rethink how they attract audiences and generate revenue.

For creators, this means that building trust and providing something unique could become more valuable over time.

Conclusion

X’s introduction of Original Content Rewards marks a significant change in its approach to creator payments.

By placing greater importance on original work, the platform is encouraging creators to contribute fresh ideas rather than simply recycle existing content.

The new system may create challenges for some accounts, but it could also give original creators a clearer path to building an audience and earning from their work.
