Studying isn’t always difficult because the subject is hard. More often, the challenge is knowing where to begin and what to focus on.

Google is addressing that problem with Study Notebooks, a new feature in the Gemini app that creates a personalized learning experience based on your own knowledge instead of following a one-size-fits-all approach.

To get started, you simply upload your syllabus, class notes, PDFs, or other study materials. Gemini then generates a diagnostic quiz to understand your current knowledge level. Instead of testing you for scores, it identifies your strengths and the topics that need more attention.

Based on your results, Gemini creates short, personalized lessons that focus on your weak areas. Each lesson includes a follow-up quiz to measure your understanding and adjust your learning path as you improve. You can also ask questions during your lessons whenever you need extra clarification.

Another useful addition is the progress dashboard. Rather than showing only completed lessons, it breaks your learning goal into smaller topics and categorizes them as strengths, focus areas, or not started. This makes it easier to understand where you’re making progress and what you should study next.

Google is also bringing Study Notebooks to exam preparation. Students preparing for exams like the SAT can already use personalized study plans, with support for JEE, NEET, ACT, GRE, ENEM, and more expected to roll out soon.

Study Notebooks also work with NotebookLM, allowing you to turn your uploaded materials into flashcards, summaries, video overviews, and other revision resources from the same set of notes.

Instead of simply answering questions, Google’s new Study Notebooks are designed to guide your learning, helping you spend more time studying the topics that matter most and less time wondering where to start.

The feature is rolling out globally and will be available in all supported Gemini languages.
